I've noticed that the clips that keep the wrist pin in seems to be a common fail point. Has anyone found a good replacement?

Maybe C clips or E clips?

I thought about a piston with set screws to keep the pin in, but that adds a lot of weight.

IMHO the best are what I call a g clip
First pic is what is usually stock clip
second pic is what I believe to be a better clip but opinions may vary

Desert Rat, the G-clip in the 2nd pic looks like what came stock in my Grubee Super-Rat, as well as the GT5A top end replacement I got when my 1st motor took a $hit on me. Clips held up when the bearings came apart & grenaded, so I can testify they can withstand abuse. Rudz, (or anyone else reading this), if yours come loose, regardless of type, check out the groove in your piston, that may be your real problem. A new slug may be nessisary. These China Bombs aren't exactly known for their high standards of quality, ya know?

the second one came with my 49cc grubbe years ago, stock
but the first one is what I got with my new skyhawk gt5a purchased 1 year ago
and as a result it popped out trashing my first cylinder
It may just depend on what they have on hand LOL
