Hi everyone,
I figured i'd share my plans for my electrical system that I plan on putting on my personal bikes, and ones to sell. DieselDave made a similar thread a few months back, however some things are different on this one, be sure to check both threads out HERE

This thread will contain an image of everything, and the link, as well as the wiring diagrams. I will make a video about installing these when the rest of my parts get there. I recommend checking your local hardware stores before ebay, for warranty reasons.

Project Box: This will hold all of our connections, including ones between the CDI and motor. You can get these at radio shack/ The Source, the bigger it is, the easier it will be to work in, but make sure you don't overdue it!

$4.19

4 wire ignition switch: Will add some extra protection, and will ensure that no components will have power with the battery off.

$3.99

Light Controller: This is a generic handlebar controller, that will allow you to turn on your lights, turn signals and horn. It perfectly matches the killswitch on the other side.

$2.81

Horn: A horn is an essential part of any bicycle. It is required by law in many countries for a bike to have a bell or horn on it. This inexpensive one will work just great for our purpose.

$4.99

Battery Pack: We'll need a battery pack to power our lights and such, this is a sealed lead acid battery, less than 5 inches long, with a case for mounting on a bicycle.

$34.95 + $10.95 shipping

Charging System: This is optional, and I will not be including this in my personal build. However, if you're making this for a customer, it might be a good idea to have a self charging battery. I didn't include a price here because you can build your own system if you want to, or simply use a 12v battery charger.

I won't be including the cost of headlights in this, because there are so many styles to vary based off of the look of your build. The wiring will be the same for most headlights. Make sure they're bright!

Note: Your wiring may be different depending on your parts, this was my case, however.

How well does the charger work?
Will let you know, I just finalized the mounting for the electrical box. That is now all wired and fully functional. In truth the 10aH battery I have hasn't run down anything measurable since I've been playing with it. I can definitely check it after I run the bike this weekend and make sure its charged some.

Electrical works great. Charger lights up, no interference with spark or engine running. Did not have any issues on my 30 mile trip. My phone was charging and my lights were on. All stable.

just a side note that should be mentioned........ if you do plan to use the mini gen as a charging system only expect it to handle 10 watts on average according to the makers specs as well as other reviews.

easy way to keep on top of that number is by how much watts your lights (or whatever is in your system) are rated for,I believe you can get away with 10 watts for a headlight and 2 to 3 watts for a tail light, but thats all the mini gen is good for. otherwise that mini gen and charger is a waste of money if you trying to use a 55 watt halogen headlight from a motorcycle or car, when your little mini gen can only replace 10 watts.

just thought that should be stated before it gets anyones hopes up for proper lights

I think the best way to do this is to purchase an inexpensive trickle charger and use a multimeter or some sort of volt tester on your battery. My battery is at the post office, finally gonna pick it up tomorrow :D

Lol, I finally got the horn in, Drove the bike to the cottage and haven't been bothered to drive it back home so itll be more than a week before I can get it proper. However, I'm working on the diagrams now :)

Here are the lights I am going to use, buying local for the warranty.

And if I decide to use a tail light (probably won't bother)

And im not sure yet, but I might go for the 1 inch turn lights instead, they look a bit nicer, though might be too small.

Dude, IDK if I'd go with that high of wattage.

I'd EBAY a 2000 lumen cree led. its only 1/2 the wattage. They chargers only do about 2A which is what a phone charges at....

Wow, haven't been on this forum in a while. Got busy, bike sat in underground parking, had so much dust I still haven't got it all off. Moved it to a better location, had it running today and did a lot of work to it.

I opted for the penny lights (Why, I don't know, proper turn lights were actually the same price if not cheaper) I'm going to wire it up in the "Tank" part of my cruiser, and I'll make plywood panels for it and stain them a nice color. Will post when done. I never actually bought the headlight, however, I do have a bunch of 12v fog lights (Like what you'd mount on top of a jeep), so I'm going to stick one of those on it. Probably will kill the battery quickly, but I don't plan on using it anyhow, just for legality purposes. Will probably install an LED bulb in it. Also working on a charging system, it doesn't hook to the engine, but one of those generators for headlights. Going to wire that up to some sort of charging circuit and use that to charge the battery (At least, that's the game plan at the moment, until I have another idea)
