I'm still working on my first build and having trouble getting it to start. I noticed that in order for my spark plug's terminal to fit into the CDI slot, I have to unscrew/remove the terminal nut on the end. Is this okay? Will the plug still work? I have another older CDI that doesn't require this. I presumed the older CDI still worked, and that maybe the reason my bike won't start is something else, but now I'm not so sure.

Yes, it is OK to remove the terminal nut from your plug.
This will not effect performance.

You can upgrade your spark plug wire and boot to fit
the terminal as the stock wire unscrews from the CDI.
The wire may be glued to the CDI but you can still cut
it off and carefully dig it out.

And, be careful digging the wire out of the CDI. There is a small metal piece inside the CDI that looks like the point of a wood screw. Don't damage or remove that part. It's the electrical connection that needs to screw into the core of the new wire.
The reason I bring this up is I just replaced a CDI for a guy who used a drill to get the old wire out. He got it out, but he also drilled away the contact not knowing it was in there.
