Fasinated by the bikes that I saw in the far east, I decided to build one. turned out to be 3.
Bought an electric wheelchair at a yard sale for 5 bucks.
Bike 1: Built a side car drive unit that also enclosed the battries(2 lawn mower battries). Was dependable but had these problems. Peeled out on takeoff. Had to compensate on takeoff with steering due to offset drive wheel. Clumbsy in turns.
Bike 2: Mounted second wheel chair motor on my old old 21 speed mountain bike. This was only for a test bed prototype. This bike turned out to have only one problem, "it was love at first ride". Now I don't have the heart to part with this one.
Bike 3: Someone gave me a rusty adult three wheel, three three speed bike. Stripped bike #1 and rebuilt this three wheeler. Works great but won't keep up with elect mountain bike.

Now I'm ready to start my 50cc project. I'm glad that I found this place! I am afirm beliver that you don't have to learn the hard way. It does seem that most of my knowledge has come that way.
Thanks for everyones postings. Anyone from Mass. please drop me a line.
