Hey, Im new to motorized bikes and such, but I have a Grubee Skyhawk 66cc motor kit mounted on a mountain bike, which i got from a friend, because he never had time to get it put together. So I was wondering where I could find JUST a 50cc motor, because the one i have on it is illegal where i live. So does anyboday know where i can find JUST a motor, NOT a complete kit.
Thanks.

Your motor most likely is not marked so if asked it is 50cc its up to the law to prove that it isn't and trust me they aren't going to bother.

All of my motors have a tag on them with the cc's stamped on it. I've never been stopped but I've gotten a lot of second looks. I think having a valid drivers license is probably going to carry more weight than the number of cc's your motor has.

See what happens when you don't work with these motors any more. Last time I had one of these they didn't have any kind of markings. Personally I doubt that on a bike frame motor size would even occur to a policeman. I would a whole lot rather fake it than try to find a replacement motor. In all the time I have been around here I have never heard of anyone being cited for motor size.

Ya, it is the Grubee Skyhawk GT5, and it has a stamp that says 66cc, 2.75 HP, and I live in Idaho where it says it needs to be 50cc or lower, so i could just take the stamped plate off? I have my licensce, but I look younger than I am, so I will probably get pulled overe and asked :(

Yep, take off the plate. That's what I would do. Even the 66cc is underpowered so it isn't like you're doing something really criminal bad. If would make you more comfortable, as someone said, get some cheap stamps at harbor Freight and make 49CC official. On my last couple of HT motors it wasn't a plate but a sticker which got removed before I painted the motors black. Nobody cares. Obey the laws, wear a helmet, be respectful... that's what the cops are more interested in... keeping you and other motorists safe. And if you get a jerk, how is he going to prove its 66 and not 50?

I can see it now: Cop on the side of the road with a calibrated CC syringe and distilled water pulling your spark plug and filling the cylinder to check the displacement against his law book...not in a million years. Police officers have much better things to do than worry about a 16cc overage on a bicycle. Remove the data plate and ride it.

not that I agree with the law and not sure in your state, but in Kalifornia it is a felony to obliterate any serial# or id markings from private property.

I've noticed that mattresses always have a tag saying "do not remove under penalty of law", so I always remove them. No mattress police have arrested me yet, but I suppose now with this public admission I could be arrested at any time. if you don't hear from me, well my time has come.

I am bad and I hang my head in shame. It began in the third grade when I embarked on a long and successful career as a truant, then smoking cigarettes. Then I discovered girls. Woohoo! Now in my second or extended childhood I spend all my money on motorbicycles. Incorrigible is what I am. And I thank my lucky stars. I could have ended up a missionary or a broker on wall street, even a lawyer politician. Arrrg. And I would travel down this same dark alley all over again, yes I would, even the three wives and four near deaths including lightning. Life is good, especially when you're bad I suppose you have no regrets having chosen the way of the missionary. To each his own, Ron. I admire you and Buzzard, Elmo and 2door for choosing the shining paths you have, upright gentleman all. Sigh...

five wives and I live under a double 'death any minute sentence' from two different specialists. I don't look back cause the devil might gain on me. As for the bike, just ride as if you stole it and see what happens. I doubt seriously that anyone will ever look.

Run a stop sign maybe, you probably will never be accused of speeding unless it is in a school zone. even then i can't imagine an officer getting his uniform dirty looking for a cc tag on a motor bike. Scooter maybe since they all look alike, but a bike nah.

There are real outlaw bikers out there doing felonies and stuff and here we are running from the law over 16cc. But I am not going to say one way or the other. I am just saying, I doubt the Hells Angels will let you in their club.

Heck I dont even wear a bike helmet let alone a real one. I ride a bike with a big ole wheel riding on top of the back wheel. Now you know they don't mistake it for a pedal bike but they never say a word about the lack of helmet. That's why I would never sweat the small stuff.
