I used to do this sort of thing. I still have the scars to prove it
I crashed only once in that 24-hour race and still got the photo taken(no scars as allways)

And our teams race transport(Soviet ZAZ car)ready to go for 24-hour race-

Now you, you are doing it right. You're having fun. Our racing went tits up because of serious people wanting to be "better".

Lovely. I don't miss much of the racing I used to do, but the sidecars will always call to me. I'm stupid.

Kneeler type low roadracing KO sidecar with twin engine(OK by local rules) is been bugging me for some time. And not paralel twin like some sidecars use here, but real rotary inlet tandem twin(like Rotax 256 etc.) based on russian KO engineblocks. Even made some drawings for frame and engine....must stop now :)
Primitive type twins used on sidecars here-

If the engines fire together and drive a common shaft, it will eliminate the probems that happen when 180 degree firing is used. Are you allowed reed valves? They are good for giving low and mid range acceleration.

What are your chassis and wheels rules?

Reedvalves are allowed in Open and sidecar 50 class.
But I´m not big fan of reedvalves on high tuned raceengines. Real rotary inlet would work great on tandem twin. Lot of work(new cranks and rotary housing), but worth it.

Frame and wheels are free on sidecars.

But on real world, maybe should finish my Open class engine(based on early 1958 year sandcast KO engine)-

The French moped classes range from minor changes all the way to build it yourself specials.

This reed valve business, my friend Smif modified a DT50 Yamaha in our racing by narrowing the reed passage, instead of opening it out like everyone else. His reasoning was that gas speed was essential in the range of revolutions the engine was set up for. It worked very well, so he may have been right about it.

Welcome Iz and thankyou for sharing your videos. That tarmac track in the first few videos is wonderful and makes for a great racing venue.

Sigh, - I know what you mean Ludwig about people wanting to take a 'fun, run wot ya brung' type formula and turning it into something 'better'. That seems to have happened to so much of cheap amateur motorsport and it's a real pity.

Seeing all those 50cc bikes being ridden hard and their riders having fun makes me feel regretful about selling the old 1950s DKW 50 I used to own. BUT then on the other hand my aging bones don't bounce quite as well as they used to when I was twenty.

Not my one, but same colour and model.

I don't race any more, and lack of bounce comes into the equation for me. Fortunately, I have developed a robust ego, and take to the stage as a guitarbarian at any and every opportunity now.

As a former rr sidecar racer (driver) I know exactly what you mean about sidecars calling to you. I would be interested in viewing photos or video of the Kneeler type low roadracing KO sidecars if you have any links. I can also relate to slowing down due to the lack of bounce. About a month ago I rode 25 miles of single track on my eMotoped only to wash the front end in my driveway when I returned home and hammering my knee on the concrete. Took 3 weeks to heal from that one.

It's very cramped and you will develop interesting burns on your knees. The suspension links were longer on a couple of those type of outfits, and the springs outside of the fork legs so the trail was reduced.
