Has anyone tried changing the air intake setup? I'm not talking about the filter. The intake is pointed down as it is now. Picture an intake shaped like the letter "U". Turn the "U" to the left. The bottom end would be going to the carb. The top leg would be facing forward acting sort of like a ram air. I think the air would be cooler and a bigger volume going into the engine. Better mileage and power? Just thinking about it.

These things do not go fast enough to get a ram air effect.
That starts around 60 to 70 mph.
As for the air being cooler, maby, but the intake is all ready far enough away from the cylinder to pull in air that has not been pre-heated by the cylinder cooling fins.
Folks have made their own air boxes, usually longer, to help muffle the intake noise. It makes for a quieter ride.

A member posted a ram intake he made from PVC pipe. He said it really amplified the engine noise.

I know we can't actually get a ram air effect. But it seems like it would help in some small way. A little larger volume of air in then a better exhaust to get it out.
