Hey there, New to bike building. someone local to me has an engine kit for sale. IS there any way I can test and see if everything works on site? or is it just a gamble? This is just an engine kit and not a full motorised bike. i'm curious if I can make sure it works before buying or tell if its been used.

Mods, New here so if this is in the wrong place feel free to move.

if it is an 'unused' kit, then everything should look new - carry a list of what is supposed to be there and check that too

Look in the exhaust port. You can easily tell if the motor has ever been run by discoloration and wear on the piston

and some good crosshatching in the cylinder. look up pictures of crosshatching on new motors if you havent seen one. bottom end should be together. crank side to side up and down play. if you think you could get a .6mm feeler gauge between the sides of the crankrod arm, then its too much. any up and down play, its out of play. listen for no cracking when you turn it.
