Default Shifter/Jackshaft chain is too light?

I've been thinking of getting of a jackshaft/shifter kit, but I'm not sure how my bicycle chain would stand up to it.

The chain that came with my kit is well over twice as heavy as my bicycle chain, and it's obviously like that for a reason.

What do you think?

PS. what tools do I need for the installation?

Just a 70cc chinese ht engine, and the standard shift kit from sickbikeparts.
