Hey everyone i just mounted my gt50 from thatsdax on my friction drive bracket and have been going for some test rides. today was the first day riding it and it felt like i was barely giving it any gas but it was screaming at high rpms and sounded extremely loud, not to mention sketchy. It vibrates a ton. Now given it is a 2 stroke, but for some reason it feels like it takes forever for the centrifugal clutch to engage. Feels like it engages at way to high of an rpm, and this little engine seems like it has very little power even though theres videos of it easily doing 30mph. I only weigh 170 pounds and i havent even gone close to full or even 3/4ths throttle because of how loud and sketchy the engine feels. Im currently running 1-20 mix ratio like dax recomends. Is there something im doing wrong? is it supposed to be this damn loud when im barely going 15mph? Maybe im just being paranoid...

Thatsdax gt50 problems PLEASE HELP!!

So i had to ride home about 4 miles without an air filter because it fell off while i was riding and i didnt notice. Know whenever i try and turn the engine on it doesnt want to idle at all no matter how much i adjust the idle screw.
i used another air filter but for some reason the engine still wont idle at all. It sounds very bogged down. Currently running 1:20 and the engine has about 40 miles on it. I cleaned the carb and the spark plug and that didnt help. I really need this engine running by the weekend, any help would be appreciated

How Dusty was the road?
Hopefully not a dirt road.

Is your choke on.

How did you clean the carb.
If the air filter fell off try tightning all the intake manifold bolts.

You need to break the engine in and adjust everything to suit you!

I use one of these http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/it.A/id.4506/.f
It is extremely loud at any rpm.
I found this it not only quiets the noise but makes more useable power.

Try the tuned pipe with a muffler.
I use these clutch springs to lower the engagment rpm, they have different engagement rpm's available

Those type of motors make power by screaming and engaging at near peak power. If it's too loud for you put a pipe on it and an airbox, and tune the clutch more conservatively, which I suspect it will do itself as the springs lose temper. It's a pocket bike engine, IE, parking lot racer.

Firstly, the OP might need to install softer clutch springs. The pocket bike clutch I've used had 3 long springs, unlike GXH 50 springs, which have 3 short fat ones like the CY460 engine. Strange, because most pocket bike engine clutches I've used have soft springs which start to engage slightly below 3,000rpm.

Secondly, 460 engines are loud IF you run the stock muffler or the Dominator pipe. With the ADA S1 pipe, it quietens down. Even though the pipes are grossly mismatched, the SBP pipe I've used makes quite a bit of power. Moreover, it quietens the 460 engine to the point where I swear I could hear the piston ring scuffing the cyclinder.

The 460 engine is EXTREMELY quiet w/ SBP pipe.

Adjust your carb mixture screws in steps. First, turn LOW 1/4 turn counter clockwise (CCW), right down the block. If no results, turn back to normal. Next, turn HIGH 1/4 CCW. If no result, return to normal.

I have a hunch the LOW screw needs to be adjusted. That happened when I screwed up the oil/fuel mix on both my CY460 engine and my Tanaka 47R engine. Both engines' problems were solved when I did this.

I'd also install a new name brand NGK, Autolite, Champion, Bosch) sparkplug, even tho you don't think you need one.

Good luck.
