great idea bob, neil and baird can attest to the hardships they go through to organize these wonderful races that are taken for granted by many of us. hopefully this is the first step of taking the load off one or two mens back's. and better things for all the racers in the future. dennis

I think an American racing association with a standard rules baseline for safety would be great

The next SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing extravaganza is on
Saturday June 1st 2013 back at the most challenging track
in Southern California Grange Motor Circuit.

You have 46 days to get ready, see you there.

We are racing the track in reverse which is Clockwise.

I stand by that safety is numero uno, #2 is that they are enforced.

Yep, there were a couple of racers missing gear like no gloves on the
starting line at the April 13th race.

They got a warning and the next race they will be going back to the
pits to get their gloves and missing the heat or race.

I really don't like ruining a racers day by not letting them race but it has
been more than long enough for everyone to get with the safety gear program.

I also I have been looking into buying at wholesale a bunch of knee and
elbow pads to sell or rent to any riders that are missing them.

We could do the same for gloves.

Jim Granger has offered the use of his Go Kart Rental full face helmets
too so that pretty much covers it.

There is only one race series in the country right now that I
know of.

There is nothing wrong with SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing's
safety rules.

Required Safety Equipment:

A DOT helmet is required by California law to ride a
gas powered motorized bicycle or Moped on the streets.
**********************************************

DOT rated helmet or better like Snell.
A full face helmet is highly recommended.

No bicycle helmets.
No novelty motorcycle helmets without DOT certification.

Eye protection.

Gloves. No bare hands.

Knee and elbow pads
or Full Leathers
or Motocross gear. ( Must have knee & elbow pads )

If you wear a leather jacket you don't need elbow pads.

Long pants, no shorts or exposed skin please.

Ankle covering footwear or boots.

Fire extinguisher.

The pit road speed limit is 5 mph & will be STRICTLY enforced.

hi everyone im grayble im new to all this about 2 months in now. i was with my buddy mannyphresh at the race on the 13th but we didnt race cause we wanted to check it out first cause we weren't sure how it worked cause it was the first event we have been too. it was an awesome event and everyone was really cool. i will for sure be at the next race and hopefully racing this time.

i actually had my bike at the race this past weekend. i rode on the track when the races were all finished. i saw your bikes there they are nice and i really like the gas tanks you made.

Standardized set of rules for tech inspection for safety and legality so racers can cross over regions and the sport is basically the same, or at least they have a bike deemed legal to a common set of rules.

First of all, we would like to thank Neil for putting on these races!
He devotes a lot of his time to get them organized and he does his best to
make it work. With the various engines out there, it is very hard to establish
categories where they should race in. We saw bikes, that claimed 20HP-25HP that
showed 14HP on the dyno and other bikes that seemed to be better then
intended ( for the class they run in).
To divide the bikes by their displacement is not working anymore.
There are many components used now, that give previously rather mild 4 stroke engines a BIG power boost!
These internal engine components will change the performance dramatically, but doing so with success, will require a larger carburetor.
We think, a variant of the “NASCAR” rule would be an easy way to classify the bikes.
Everybody racing will make a plate that is bolted between the carburetor and
the intake manifold. Looks pretty much the same as the gasket used but has a small flag as part of the plate with the diameter in millimeter of the hole stamped or scratched on it.

It is NOT a restrictor plate!!!! You can have any size you want!
Classes could be 18 to 22mm, 23 to 26, 27 to 30, 30+ just as an example.

After a race, the winner pulls the plate in front of everybody for inspection.
We realize that there is no “perfect” way to classify these bikes, and there will always be problems but this seems to be a pretty good way.

We also feel that there should be no classification on the riders. There are many levels of rider ability, and there are many amateur riders who are better than some seasoned “pro”riders
Judging a riders skill to classify them opens a whole bunch of problems…….. we are grownups, and slower vs faster riders is part of the challenge, that’s racing!!
One last point…….. Just don’t take this kind of racing too seriously . You will kill it if you do.

I just want to make it clear the the money purse is not a trend and will
only be used for the 66 cc 2 Stroke PRO Class as long as the sponsors,
ArrowMotorizedCycles.com, TheJakeBike.com and PistonBikes.com
continue to kick money into the purse.

There will be no cash purses in any of the other classes and there were
no plans to do that.

For the next race on June 1st the Chinese bicycle engine classes will be
divided up into.

Amateur
Intermediate
PRO

It's called SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing.

Hey, did anyone notice that NONE of the paid racers were called
upon to help out with the flagging, scoring or other tasks?

You have my buddy mojavemesa aka Ryan the dyno man to
thank for that!
Ryan organized local moped guys and racing enthusiasts to do
the flagging and he also bought some umbrella girls too!!!

Huge thanks to Ryan's friend Travis who signed you guys in and
got the scoring down in all the races.

Thanks to Sam for a great job with a lot of style do the starting
and finish flagging. Sam said he had a good time and will be back
on the next race on June 1st back at Grange.

Ryan also made and bought the dyno again and it will be at the
next race too.

Thank you Ryan, you were the number 1 guy making the race the
success it was!

I did notice and think this event went the smoothest out of all of them . Everyone that helped you out did a great job .

Maybe a visit to your eye doctor is needed? LOL

The EMT was in the same place as they always are.
If you were looking at the track you were looking at the EMT's
canopy and banner.

back to the original post by turkman, instead of turning this into another thread about how great neil's races are, and how no one else needs to do anything remotely related to racing, i think the idea was to get a group of like-minded people together with new ideas and resources to take the burden off of one man (or one man with a secret cabinet of advisors who claimed he wouldn't be promoting any more races) and to help our sport progress.

instead, it looks like it will turn into the same old - same old arguments and childish bickering.

an association, by definition, is a group of people, which i attempted (and ultimately failed) to get together to make something bigger and better for all of us, not a one man operation.

my bottom line is if you want my help, i'm offering it. if not, expect more of the same from the scmba.

nothing's really changed in 2 years, and if no one's gonna actually do anything about it, we should probably just shut up and race, or give it up completely.

obviously, complaints and criticisms are only answered with insults and excuses, so that's just wasting time and bandwidth.

unless we want to have a real discussion on the possibility of creating a better racing organization for everyone, this is the last post i'll make on the subject.
