I'm having issues mounting an engine on a mountain bike of mine. I just tried to mount the engine on a pannier rack behind the seat, above the back tire, had everything hooked up, and turned it on, and it worked for about a second. The torque bent the rack down, loosened the chain and the chain fell off. :(

Anyways, here's what I have:
motor:
24 Volt 250 Watt Electric Bicycle Gear Motor
at Electric Scooter and Pocket Bike Motor - ElectricScooterParts.com
(the smallest bicycle motor with built in gear reduction)

and the bike is a 2005 hard tail Raleigh Mountain Bike (Mojave) seen below at
The Bike Stand Raleigh Hardtail

Note also that the motor is round. This makes it kind of tough to mount. I had a friend weld an L-shaped bracket that bolts to it so it could sit on the rack. (Pictures to come later.)

Any suggestions? I have the rear disk brake removed (with a bicycle sprocket hooked up instead). I have access to bicycle chain, #25 chain, and plenty of tools.

Hi toastermm, I think the best way to mount it is as toytime suggested.
you can find the right bracket to mount it at tncscooters
(sorry it won't let me post the link because it's my first post

they also have that same motor that you bought for about $40 cheaper.
I got the geared 36 volt 600 watt from them.

good luck.
