Can I get away with going sprocket/spokes/rubber/3 piece metal ring

The spokes have to be captured with rubber on both sides.

No! Do not mount the sprocket against the spokes!.
Why would you need to do that?

Was having an issue gettin the rag joint lined up on my onyx but I think I figured it out was just a thought

yeah, I did that on an onyx and the sprocket ended up eating the spokes. I had to rebuild the entire thing and replace all the spokes that the sprocket was rubbing against. Use both rubber things and bend the brake arm it's pretty easy with a vice.

Were you able to get all 9 bolts through? I got 7 through and real tight

On mine, not an Onyx, it was a bear getting them all in. Took quite a while.

On an onyx you have to use 6 of the 9 holes to get it centered right. Trust me I have built several of these.
