welcome from FH :)

I just fixed a bike that was bought from you ;)
nothing was tight, bike-wise (he brought it to me after the chains kept falling off)
less than 5 miles on it and axle nuts, brake arm bolt, front end were all barely snug, 3 bolts missing on the rear sprocket (68 spoke wheel),,,even the front tire's valve stem was at a 45 degree angle (no front brakes so it didn't get that way from riding) ;)

I felt so bad for the kid (his name is Christian), I worked for 1.5 hrs and only charged him $10

if you are going to sell bikes , please make them safe, if someone gets hurt because of a shoddy build, the 'powers that be' will regulate all of us out of existence :(

BTW,,,this is not meant to 'bash' another vendor, just a wish to keep people safe

Hi, Azbill

thank you helping out, I have two bicycle mechanics at my shop both with lots of experience and talent.I dont know what happened on this build, thank you for informing me, I will have a long talk with both mechanics today. They usually through each bike to make sure it is safe, reliable and fun to ride. I will now have to personally make sure that each bike has been quality controlled by me.

custom made bike, rear wheel is from a golf cart, rear hub was custom machined to fit a bicycle coaster brake, front end is from a schwinn spoiler, frame is built from scratch, we (Bicycle Exchange) did not build the frame, we installed the hf 99cc engine, using a comet go-cart style clutch, standard rear sprocket, and #41 chain. I rode the bike for approx 15-20 miles, it gets up to 25-30 mph which was fine by the owner.

This is why I have never joined a forum before, I havent been on here for 24hrs, and I have two ppl bashing me! unless you ALL havent made any mistakes in building bikes, please dont comment on what I have done wrong. I never stated that I was the BEST bike builder on earth, This is hobby for me NOT a business, we (Bicycle Exhange) specialize in regualar bikes, NOT motorized bikes.

That one with the GP460 must be insane to ride!

I have always wondered, How do the rear 'sprockets' attach to the spokes on the belt drive kits?

Don't take it personally, some people are just a little heavy handed with their opinions and are used to nit-picking faults. In a way that can point out what can be improved in the future, but yea, it can feel like a slap in the face. You gotta take it with a grain of salt eh.

I for one like your builds, and enjoyed the pics and vid. Love the rims on the Purple Beast, now that's how you do a top idler! :) I can see why, the symmetry of the super long chain being parallel looks great.

I think Yank was picking on the Tandem top idler. With those stock plastic things, they don't last long. But a sprocket up there will last much longer.

Haven't seen a Predator FD in a while. What'd you use for a roller on that? Does the design bite the rubber good?

Yea, don't get discouraged and give up on us eh. Once more people come across this thread you'll get a lot if different opinions, but most will be kudos.

Oh yea, you'd better cut off the mechanics beer supply for a couple weeks. azbill's mention of what he had to QC when he got it kinda shot you in the foot before you got going. :p

gl.

Edit- JFC yank, who peed in your beer?

If you can't do it correctly don't do it at all being your charging people for this crap work.
If you really are A pro bike shop then act like it. but that tandem build says your just a backyard HACK

Hey, great lookin bikes! I am impressed with that clean rack mount preddy FD. Is that a stock Maxtorque? What is that cylinder welded to it ? I see the expanded metal grip added to it.

Don't worry much about the opinionated ones. Just pick out the constructive parts and let the rest roll off yer back like rain on a duck. Some of them are a little gruff but mean well, and some of them feel better when they make someone else feel bad.

Great builds BICYCLEEXCHANGE the chopper is sweet (^)

Lets all chill out and remember to be respectful to each other. Lets build on the common interest of motorized bicycles and the passion we all have for them and not the negative crap. I don't know about you guys but I come here to have fun and enjoy reading and sharing about MABs and the good friends I have made here and hope to make many more.

Hi BX (BicycleExchange will be too long for me to type again).

I'm local, are you the guy with the Macargi Touch bikes for wholesale I talked on the phone with a couple moths ago?

I like to at least get know all the other locals that build so when you have a chance get in touch with me.

I do have to agree with AZBill and Yank on this however.
Build it right the first time
I would add 'And Test It to make sure'.
I have a kick ass race 66cc Skyhawk 8-speed shifter mountain bike close enough to done I just took it for a ride and it threw a JS chain at ~45MPH, in short it's not ready for delivery as this bike has more.

I know the fine line between a business and a hobby especially working from home but there is a line.

Like you I have am unregistered business name and web site for my bikes, I pay my income taxes on what I make I just don't pay the state $50 a year for the honor of having to add 7.4% sales tax on everything I sell and do all that sales tax crap every month to give them more.
Been there did that for 30 years with my computer business.

I am however about this --> <-- close to finding a little converted house storefront I can live in the back of so I have some retail walk in and more shop space.
We all know this town, the 6th largest city in the US needs a real motorized bicycle shop that may just stay in business.

A couple have tried and failed.
The reason is the point of the quote, do it right the first time, it takes forever to build a reputation but only one thing to destroy it.
I'm batting 1000 for 2 years now so I'm going to gamble it all and then some to make a go at it.
My only tip to you is make sure whatever leaves your door is right is all.
That and make yourself known on my web forum ;-}
