Is it correct to say that our 2 stroke engines have a 415 chain and it is the same pitch as a regular bike chain just bigger, and that there is one at tractor supply place. and if so which chain is it?

#41 from Tractor Supply- or any number of small engine shops.

A regular bicycle chain has a pitch of 1/2" which is the same as 415 or #41.

The guys here have been buying #41 Chain at TSC.

When I looked it up on the Azusa site, they say a #415 was also #42.

If you can't take your sprocket to physically check it, I'd go with the #41.

TOMORROW, I am taking my sprocket to the TSC and checking the #42 they have there as well as the #41....I will post a full report tomorrow evening.

I did change over to the #41 chain, and it is wider (loose from side to side). I have riden approx 50 miles so far with no problems. It seems to be a better quality, and with the tensioner I installed much quieter.

Most bike shops can order a KMC "freestyle" extreme 1/2 x 3/16 that is made for BMX bikes.
It'a a "K415H and is colored silver. Only thing is that it comes with 98 links and is about four links short.(for my bike)

Can't wait for the report on the chain! Bike guyjoe sounds like you are trying to say that a small engine shop will have a chain that will fit our bikes and that it is the #41 but there maybe one even better and it is a #42 hope that is what you are saying. Can't wait.

i am also using a #41 from tsc and have alot of miles on it and very happy with it. plus i can get 2 plus chains out of it for 14 bucks and also master links are readily available. most motorized bicycle sprockets wabble just a little on the spokes and i think the little bit of movement allowed is actually a good thing

I'll report back with my findings later today...the #42 should fit PERFECTLY since it's 3/16" the same as the 415. I have been meaning to do this since last year, but folks started using #41 and seemed happy, but I just have to know!

Well, here's the deal...I went all ove rtown trying to find #42 chain to no avail.

TSC has #40 which fit the sprocket as well as #41, but they don't sell # 42 any more.

So, for now, #41 it is.

#420 is the same SIZE as #41, but it's twice as strong in tensile strength and a little heavier per foot.

#40 is even wider than #41 so, I wouldn't use that.

#415 is the same size as #42.
