surging chain problems

I have a problem with my Scwinn Cruser with a 2 stroke Chinese 80cc egine. The bike continually surges in a jerking motion. The engine runs smoth, I have tigtened th chain without any improvement. Any suggestions?

the chain needs to be a little lose. and make sure your chain stay isn't twisting towards the wheel causing the chain to jump off. adding a metal piece that extends to the other side of the fork will help if thats the problem.

Yes, overtightening will make it worse. 3/4" of freeplay at the tightest point.

It sounds like you will have to remove the rear wheel and loosen/center/tighten the sprocket carefully keeping it centered as you go.

You may want to check and make sure the center hole in the sprocket is centered while you have it off.
