So... I just picked up a Nos 3hp Clinton motor from the 70's. Was wondering if anyone has mounted a similiar motor to a SBP shift kit? I was thinking of maybe getting a cent. clutch and then running it staight to the 17 tooth jack shaft sprocket. Would need a longer 5/8 jackshaft rod to do this. Will it work???? I believe the rpms are 3600 on the motor. This DIY stuff is new to me so any help or suggestions would be great.

Sounds like a good motor to build a shift for. 4 strokes have a wide torque range and use lower rpm.
You could use SBP parts:cranks, freewheel, maybe whole kit and modify or fab some mounts etc.
The longer shaft you can find at mcmaster carr
Good luck and keep us informed.
I'm building one from their parts for a 2 stroke
