Might be a dumb question, but any easy was to splice 2 cables together?

I have a short length of throtle cable hooked up to the motor. And my brake cable is not long enough, plus its a goofy cable set up that hard to explain. It is in 2 sections with exposed wire along the top of the frame... Anyway...

Am I just better off getting a new cable long enough, or can I tie the 2 together?

They can be spliced together by soldering them with silver bearing solder, but you would end up spending more $ for the solder and a propane torch then a new cable would cost you.
