Mine is an old Gary Fisher Aquila Mountain bike.. Mine has been a very interesting installation so far due to a number of issues with the design of the bike.

If you check out the Rotten Orange Gary Fisher build in the photo section, theres a whole thread about it with lots of photos. Here's a link:

For most bikes, this shifter kit is a pretty simple installation, but you can read about how i'm solving some issues that I came across solely due to the way my bike was built.

Datz and I both got the Sick Bike Parts Shifter Kit from Welcome to Sick Bike Parts and it has been a lot of fun to ride. At 200 dollars they are not making a lot on these kits and it would be very expensive to try to reproduce it without free use of a full machine shop. Then you still have to get the quality parts to make it all go and the design Jim and Paul worked out. These guys are the real deal when it comes to customer service and quality product.

this seems like a good plan, but cost is a bit high dontcha think? also, how exactly does this work????

from looking at some of the vids on youtube, it looks like the jackshaft rides on the same sprocket as the bike chain. is this right? wouldnt it make it impossible to pedal???

Well there is a little more than that. There are 86 individual items that make up the kit including the hardware, if you remove the hardware there are 23 major components.

This kit is one of the best $200.00 I have spent on my motor bike. I have spent close to $700.00 on a kit with plastic drive parts and was not impressed with it. This kit is a real good deal. Somebody is just complaining to spread discontent if they say this is a bad deal. I have over 1000 miles on my kit. I plan on collecting more miles and enjoying them.

after seeing the list of parts you get for $179 it does look better, but i still wouldnt pay that.

a transmission or performance muffler should not cost the same as a engine.
I'm sorry but in this case you are totally wrong. Compare the parts on your lil Chinese motor to the parts in the SBP jackshift kit. You will then see why I say you are wrong in this case.

Not to mention that you include the chain tensioner assembly in that new lower price.

OMG, I just thought of something you could do, even though I have never seen the actual chain tensioner.

Ever had to pay for the brake antilock device on a car? Might be the most expensive piece of equipement under the hood of a car and it does not even make the car go faster.

After you ride your china and are able shift through the gears. you just won't go back to single speed even if you originaly though that the price was high. (I don't think the price is unreasonable) If you try to duplicate it and charge yourself $3.00 hr it will still cost you more.
