the rag joint destroyed spokes on my wheel so i juts took disk brake off and bolted the sproket where disk used to be and it rules, chain never broked or jump off. whith rag joint i had broken few chains and chain jumping off. first i doubt that thes 6 little bolts wont handle the powed but they done fine so far.

Howard Sprocket Mount, $50, USA made by forum member and a US shop, uses 6 bolts for the clamp and 9 standard bolts for grubee 9 hole sprockets.

I have this part and plan to install it this weekend. Shipping was prompt, and the part is as described and pictured.

Edit: I got it on there, a tight squeeze, with the thick guage spokes, but with quality spokes, esp standard mtn bike spokes, it should not be any problem. You might have to loosen half the spokes a little to get it in there more easily, and work it around to your desired orientation regarding the spoke crosses.

I looked at most all the alternatives to the rag joint. The Howard Sprocket Mount is my favorite just because it will accept most of the Chinese 9 hole sprockets. I contacted him (very nice person) with my hub dimension of .630. There are no sprocket mounts for that small a hub.

Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.

I like Howards approach. He figures we all have sprocket, it came with the kit. What we don't have is a good way to mount the thing on our wheels. He identifies and offers a solution to the real problem. Good job!

Thank you MaxPower!

Really appreciate you putting all this together in one place!

IMO, the hub adapter is the single most important improvement that should be made to a chinagirl kit, only with the exception of Al.Fisherman's pre-build inspection and fastener replacement exercise.

Gotta get me one!

Howard said he was working on a version for the barrel size of some common freewheel hub, or cassette shimano hub, after his business picks up enough to justify large order of them. I think it will be a big hit, esp for motorized bicycle builder/sellers. I think the Hybriped works on shimano mtn wheels, probably your next best option. It looks like it uses grubee cogs with enlarged holes. You might ask the seller if it can take a smaller cog like 36t.

Kings Custom Sprockets has a $50 sprocket that bolts up to 6 hole disc brake hubs (instead of disc). Kind of high!

Pirate Cycles has some manic type hub adapters, and a boxed wheel with adapter that uses shimano 5/6/7 freewheels. They have some for walmart multi-speed hubs, that might fit some shimano and generic hubs. They are apparently out of stock, and their thing only takes 3 hole special cogs (way more expensive than grubee cogs).

I think the Howard mount is cool. It is the strongest, with 6 bolts to the clamshell, and 9 for the cog (grubee pattern).
