I finally installed my kit and went to start it to no avail...I checked for spark by pulling plug and spinning my tire, the spark seemed intermittent and on some spins didn't really spark at all. double checked my wires every thing was connected. are these cdis known to be bad from the get go?

I doubt the CDI is the culprit. Check that kit supplied spark plug boot. We always suggest replacing it with a good automotive quailty boot. They are notorious for bad electrical connections. While you're at it replace the kit spark plug also. They are known for poor performance out of the box.

got it running! heres what it was...im going for a vintage look so I wrapped my cdi box in copper and when I screwed on my new plug wire there was apparently a single strand of wire from it just barely poking out and grounding on the copper wrapping. thanks for the help. ill post pics sometime soon
