I have noticed that the retainer that holds the clutch cable has stripped out and through vibrations is no longer able to be tightend. I has thought about using some jb weld or alternative as a fix, but was wondering if there was a more suitable fix for this. Anyone else have this problem before?

you might be able to helicoil the hole. or tap it over size and make a new cable holder if you have a metal lathe or access to some hand tools.
You may be able to make a cable holder that will bolt or rivet to the side cover, there's ways to fix it. Some guys make a pulley mount and modify the cable.
