The pins are on the back of the piston in the ring grooves.
They face the intake side and are on both sides of the intake
port so the ring ends do not catch on the port.
The rings are stopped from rotating by these pins which keep
them from moving.
Take note that the ring ends are angled to fit around the pin
so the ring has to be the right side up.
If you try to insert the piston into the cylinder with the ring
ends not being next to the pins you will break them.
Your ring ends in your pic are on the front of the piston so
carefully rotate the ends about 180*
