i highly recommend it
an old room mate lost my antennas.
it wasn't a problem till now when i need a little wifi.
all i can ever find is high gain & usually expensive.
i only need wifi covering 5-10feet away.

i want to make a simple small antenna.

i know they use a RP-TNC connectors.

my router is that gold plug.
the antenna needs to be the silver one.
all the plans i see are for cantenna, unidirectional, or tall.

i'm pretty good with electronics. i just never got into antennas.

any ideas?
pencil wrapped in wire, cloths hanger, old cooking pot?

Yes, that is one version of a ground plane antenna.
If shaped like that, then the radiated pattern will be more cone-shaped and smaller, and I believe the radials have to be at a slight percentage less that the radiating element in length. If the radials are at 90 degrees, the pattern will be doughnut shaped. If you add a capacity hat, the doughnut will be squashed as if you stomped on it with your foot.
Do some research, my explanations might be somewhat hard to understand.
