Clutch pulley contacts mag cover

Clutch pulley contacts mag cover

1947 vintage Whizzer H model motor.

Clutch pulley has worn 2 grooves in magneto cover (part # 2635)

Clutch belt is non-cogged, marked Gates "power rated" 6828, 227ET.

Found an old thread where Quenton mentioned 90+% of old Whizzer motors exhibit similar issue.

Is there a fix/cure, other than repeated mag cover replacement?

What is proper front belt? AX26 or AX27?

Need suggestions and guidance to properly adjust clutch & belts /align pulley.

Thanks

Where cattle outnumber people 3 to 1.
Fredthecat- Could you post some pictures?
I'm sure there are members here who would benefit from seeing the problem.
Many people are not familiar with the Wizzer, but may be able to make suggestions based on the pics.

Thanks for offer to help.
I tried photos, apparently jpeg files too large. Not certain how to upload them here.

Looks like a simple guard over mag cover may slow, but not cure.

Or simply not pulling clutch lever all the way to handlebar at stop...hmm... neutral idea is a good one.

You need a slightly longer or narrower belt. This will move your pulley away from your mag cover. I've had that same problem with my bikes.

Nope, got no guidance as to what front brake hub to hunt for. Still interested.

Replaced front drive belt with AX27...too long, couldn't adjust motor, clutch spring far enough so had to go back to old belt. Made an angle iron bracket to prevent pulley from grinding on mag cover (a cover for the cover), but now don't have full clutch lever travel.

What is the old belt? You could lace in a worksman hub or Sturmey for brakes . Reminds me ,I better go lace one to a rim .

The old belt is a non-cogged v-belt marked: Gates "power rated" 6828 227ET.

1/2" x 28". May be equivalent to Gates AX26 ?

Still having trouble figuring out clutch cable, pulley spring and spring bracket adjustment to allow full clutch lever pull without pulley hitting mag cover.

Any idea what model SA front brake hub I should search for?

SA front brake with 105ga spokes, worksman rim. Look on eBay.
