I use the baggy method too, but I don't poke a hole in it. I pour the lube into the baggy. Stick the cable end into the baggy. Make sure there's a lot of air in the baggy. Wrap a rubber band tight around the baggy and cable. Then hold the cable up so that the lube is down around the cable end. Then squeeze the air out of the baggy, which will force the lube through the cable housing. Works really well.
