I'm wondering if anyone has felt a need to maybe put a 49cc cylinder head on an 80cc engine to make look more kosher for local regulations ? assuming it would fit.

Don't they look the same from the outside? Only the inside cylinder size is different. Here's is how I stay within the local regulations: I do not drive over 33K/mph and wear a helmet.

I doubt if it would work... you might change the compression of the engine & make it run bad...
Just tell the police that it's 49cc... they have no way of proving it!

Some of the new EPA friendly 50cc have a slant plug head, some have old round heads, some have square, most larger than 50cc have a larger squarer head.

Many experienced MB'ers dont even know the diference how do you expect a cop to know? Theres no way they could know unless they pull the head and do a volume test and that ain't gonna happen. Been ridin for 3 years never been stopped.

If your really worried get an actual 50cc engine or get a metal stamping kit from Harbor freight and stamp it as 50.
