So; last night I was at the local car / bike show with my Pope build when this young Dude rides up on a FANTASTIC e bike. Has a new Felt cruiser basis with rims to match. 48V 12 something amp hrs batt in a cast aluminum box. Crystalyte hub motor at ~3000 watts and hydraulic disks front and back. Traded him ride for ride. He took the Pope and I took the e bike. HOLY POOP!! I had my "come to Jesus" moment in the first 100 yards. TOTALLY silent great torque very good terminal speed yack yack yack. I could go on and on but Im hooked. http://ez-pedals-llc.myshopify.com/products/vintage-electric-bike-e-tacker?variant=1234531009 Has a shop in downtown Scottsdale http://ezpedals.com/

If it rides as good as it looks it might even make this old dinonsaur set up and take notice. I've never been impressed with electrics because I like the feel, smell and sounds from gas engines but...

Neat bike, electrics are just cool.
You could build that yourself for $2000- $3000, and it would be your style one of a kind bike and you get the pleasure of building yourself.

...the building of a bike seems to be a form of meditation for me...that I need.

I learned this first hand. No fun to pedal without motor.
If you want to actually be able to pedal get a geared hub(I really like) or a mid-drive(no experience). The DD motors are not a pedal friendly motor, to much resistance.

From the web page, this...'Single speed drivetrain isn't much fun to pedal if you run out of batteries, no power level gauge, pedal assist isn't super responsive and brake levers don't have inhibitors.'
