True, but sometimes simple is good design. The article does a good job at explaining why keeping the weight in the middle and low is better. The battery attached is rebuildable, which is one of the best improvements for owners you could get. That feature doesn't cost anything extra, it's just good sensible forward thinking design. I'd like to see some suspension in the bike but overall it offers better design than many of the kickstarter ebikes out there. If you want to see something different check out the e-add bike in the other kickstarter thread I posted, a friction drive ebike.

That's just a regular bike with a Bafang/8FUN mid drive kit and a battery attached.
Their claim of 38 lbs is an extremely light ebike especially with a heavy NuVinci hub.

Most ebikes weigh over 60 lbs.

What is the weight of the Koben and the Koben S?
The Koben prototype weigh around 36lbs (16.3kg).

We are targeting 36lbs for production models as well, but we won't have final numbers until this summer. This would make it one of the lightest ebikes available, at any price.

The Koben S prototype is 38lbs with the NuVinci CVT. The S model does have more power and battery to compensate for the additional weight. Again, our production target is set at 38lbs.
