I got the interesting idea to ride my motorbike to the Long Beach Bike Swap Meet here in Sunny California. I say interesting because I usually drive there in my car and it takes 30 or 40 minutes. Its about a 30 mile drive.

I knew taking my bike on surface streets all the way would take a while, so I left at sunrise. It was actually cold this morning, somewhere in the 40's. I was wearing a leather jacket and leather gloves, but I had to pull over every 15 minutes or so to put my gloved hands on the briggs head to warm up my numb fingers. I rode on Sunset Blvd. all the way into East L.A., I then took Atlantic Blvd. south and followed near the 710 all the way to the Vets stadium. It took me around 2 hours to get there. On the way there I noticed my coaster brake was more grabby and it seemed like I had run my rear hub dry.

I bought some bearing grease and went back to my bike to lube the hub. While I was working on the hub, I got a lot of positive feedback on my bike. Everyone kept asking what year it was. I told them I just got done building it, so its a 2012. Some people chuckled, some thought I was being a wise-ass. After I put the hub back together, I must have done something wrong because when I ran the bike on its stand and revved it, the hub loosened and the pedal chain bound up on the sprocket, bending my rear axle.

During this state of turmoil a super nice guy I met at the last Grange race walked up to me and asked if everything was going to be ok. I told him it didn't look like the bike would make it back and I would call AAA for a tow. His name is Soporn, and he is a member of this forum. I don't know his forum name, but he is a super nice awesome person. He offered me a ride home using his small flatbed service truck. He went home and got the truck, came back and picked me up, and we got home in 30 minutes. Soporn is the man! A life-saver and truly helpful guy.

I owe you man,

Gilbert

Definately an adventure! I wanted to go this month but I couldn't remember what week it was, 2nd or 3rd. We should set up a ride with all the briggs bikes but maybe when it warms up a little more.

That's an adventure all right. I love those kind of rides. Normally I would try to limp home any way possible, before working on my bike away from home though.
