Newer auto engines are designed to be driven about 30 seconds after start up.
Right try that at -40C , well maybe in your car ;)
When cold, a car or truck is ready to move when it warms up as in , you see the temp gauge moves and heat comes out of the vents. Sure you can pin on it right off the bat but that isnt what is good for the engine !

skiball83 Makes some valid point in light of the catalytic converters. I changed out a whole lot of those out on BMW's over the years they are famous for it. Today's emissions standards have caused a whole bunch of conundrums for every one these days. It is what it is.

And then there was the Ford Excursions I heard rumor that their cat's could get hot enough to light a grass fire when out in a field somewhere. So you don't want to lose the heat shield
