had to replace the sprocket on the engine...the 10 tooth. ordered a new one...fit very loose. there is a groove in the circle of the sprocket...should there be a key pin or something on the shaft...i have nothing there...just a shaft, so the sprocket spins. what do i need to do? thanks.

Yes the half moon is in the shaft, the shear key is pretty small so you may have to get the smallest key you can find at your local HW store and do some filing on it.

In addition to the above:

Be sure that the sprocket fits snug on the shaft. The end of the shaft is slightly tapered. The bore in the sprocket is slightly tapered. Although most will interchange, just be aware that there are some odd ones out there.

If your sprocket goes onto the shaft all the way up to the bearing...and the sprocket rocks on the shaft...the bore in the sprocket is too large for the shaft.
