Star Nuts or Headlocks on threadless fork/headset

The star nut is really only there to pull the clamp down properly. It holds no stress as the clamp bolts give it the hold.
Think of the star nut more as the adjustment for the bearings rather than giving any clamping force. It takes up the slack then the clamp bolts lock it down.
Very strong and simple system. I've used them on BMX bikes with no issues under severe abuse.
