I have a Townie 3i. It is a few years old but as good as new if not better. I want to use an electric motor and as I want to keep the 3 speed rear hub I am thinking a front hub motor or a mid drive.
The bike has aluminum forks so torque could be a problem. Do you think a torque arm is enough to prevent fork bending or breaking ?
Hub motors are cheaper and easier and I have used them before. This Townie is aluminum but it is a substantial bike.
The mid drive I am looking at is the Bafang that requires a new crank set and hub. I don't like that.
