I am not a friction drive guy, but I would think that a fat tired bike is better suited. The fat tires would appear to wear slower and slip less than a narrow tire.
The Higgins looks like it has a 26x1 3/8 rear tire. I ran one of those wheels sucessfully on the rear of my chain driven motorbike for a few months. I think that Higgins would work fine for a belt drive or chain drive. We'll see what the experienced friction drive guys say.
