That really is cool Trey.

Thinking search scrap yards and recycle places for some sort of handled worm gear with wheel thing.

This could be really cool.

I really, really like these kinds of threads. Always some thing amazing comes from 'em.

(This is not my final for-show arrangement, so don't judge.)
The type of stand someone makes or uses depends a lot on what they have to work with. If I had ceiling joists or some point of support above my work area, then I might use straps.
Considering I can easily manually lift the bike, I don't need a lifting mechanism - just a support. A cantilevered pipe at an adjustable height is a convenient system. And naturally, using the clamps makes the bike stable. I always did marvel at the way those clamps grip a pipe.

i used two heavy duty hooks screwed into a heavy wooden work bench. that seemed to do the trick. cost about 4 bucks at a hardware store

Heres mine, I bought a bench mounted bike work stand ($35 Ebay) and scrounged up every scrap bit of wood I had and made this, its crude looking but it got me thru my first build and is still going....
