living the dream in southern california
the odds of convincing 3 hot girls you "met" on facebook to drive waayyy out into the desert to see a moped race are pretty slim...

"...it's just a little further, i swear. what? i always bring duct tape and a shovel with me. why are you crying?..."

Only 32 days to the next SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing Extravaganza

The weather on Saturday Oct 20th will be absolutely
gorgeous out at Grange. Average temperature is about 80*
I love it out there in the desert at that time of year. We
got the whole track to ourselves and at night it's just us
and the stars. No neighbors to worry about.

The hot tip is to arrive on Friday and camp overnight and
I will get you on the track at 7 am Sat to practice or just
cruise around if that is your preferred speed. :)

AirEd serves hot coffee out of his RV to all the racers at 6 am
Thank You Ed!!! :) Please donate a buck or two to cover
his costs.

Heats start at 10.15am right after the riders meeting.

Yes, there will be an entry level class for any newbie track
riders or if you just want to try it out with no pressure.

On Friday we get to play and party with a smaller group of
early arrivals. BigBoyCycles, Nashmoto, SoSauty, scotto,
AirEd, Piston Bikes Crew, the Arrow Motorized Cycles wrecking
crew and more will all be there.
Even The Aleman is promising that he will be there. :D

Come on out and make a weekend of it cause I got some very
fun plans for Sunday too.

Don't motivate scotto too much cause he is only gonna make his
beast of a bike louder!

Are you showing up on Friday or Saturday?
Is Dean coming too?

Gotta be some other San Jose racers.

I'll probably get Dean on coming out. He wants to race in the HT class with his air cooled 5.8.
There use to be a bunch of guys that raced with us back in the days but I don't know what happened to them. I know Santa Cruz has a bunch of MBer. I see at least two guys on bike everyday.

Hey I just started a thread about the Desert Climate without even reading this.

Your start times are perfect. You obviously know the desert.

Hmmm... if my bike is together I still might come, but I'm not promising anything.

Looks like you have things coming together. :)
There are a few local eBike shops that are interested in racing
some bikes.
I am going to try to get Dan Hannebrink to show up again and
SoSauty will probably be there.

Shuttle Buddy said he is coming with a bunch of riders.

A big thanks to Dave Rust of Arrow Motorized Cycles for
coming through with some cool trophies again for the upcoming
October 20th race.

Dave has been moving his shop and home this month so he has
closed down orders from his website but will be up and selling
his race winning performance parts again very soon.

Dave didn't have time to make the custom cast trophies this time
so you guys that won them have some real collectors items.

There is a pic of nashmoto around here somewhere with his trophy
for the 50 cc 4 stroke class.

Remarkable machine and riding - but the poor guy was left holding an empty, meaningless trophy.. effectively rendered a meaningless paperweight -- because he finished 2nd behind an electric in the main race!!

See you all in he11. I'll bring cheetos and beer. -S

Thank you for the comment about the "remarkable machine and riding" but we do not deserve the disrespectful wording after that!

We build our bike to ride in the class described as:

>50cc Mid Range Class:
Harbor Freight 79 cc Greyhound
Harbor Freight 99 cc Predator
Honda GX 100
Honda GX 160
Whizzer 136cc
Pit Bike Cag 4+ hp 2 stroke
GP 460 47cc 4.5 hp 2 stroke
Briggs & Stratton 5 hp
Morini 5.8 hp 2 stroke

and we did finish first in this class with our little 117cc bike!

This bike run first Thursday midnight. I drove it 20 feet to load it in the Van and that was all the testing time we had. We left Friday morning for the 450 mile drive to Grange and got there at 9pm. The Shaggy (Van) left with 8 cylinders and arrived with only 7! Oh well! Still running today!!

Saturday morning I drove the bike a few laps and we found a few
problems we were able to fix in time for the heat.

After the heat we had a blown intake gasket - fixed that!

At the race, the bike and I gave the best (and had some fun too)!
I build a considerable lead, (which I did not know about) even to the E-bike!
In the last lap, I can't remember 2 or 3 turns before the straight to the finish,
the engine just dies! OMG was NOT what I thought!!!! Try to restart once, twice, three times! Nothing!!! I just started pedaling .... fast as I can!!
I could not believe it! ...thinking "should I get of the bike and run alongside it..... ahh @#&#$@#"

At this point the E-bike is passing me and is yelling at me "I don't want to win
like that....." !
Everything seems to be in slow-motion! I try to touch the wires coming from the engine, little pull little push......... turn the key and my baby is running again!!!!!!! HOW LONG???????? I'll be easy on her... not to much gas...
no high RPM's...... go go go... where are the others?????
Easy, easy there is the finish......... YES!!!!! @#%$*@
Looking for Timm...
He started to run as fast as he could to help me, when he saw me pedaling like a madman and
was now in the middle of the track....! Let's say it was a emotional moment
when he came back.

NO!
NO, it is NOT an empty, meaningless trophy.. or a meaningless paperweight!

It is a reminder of a fun and very, very exciting time Timm and I had!
Something we will not forget and both of us are proud of! A Team!
We do not take ourselves or racing to serious and some of you know that.
And if there was no trophy, we would have been just fine!

I am sure, that the E-biker would rather have overtaken me while my engine was running! No doubt!

My understanding was that the trophy's were donated for gas powered classes. I think it is not very nice to complain about a donation for a cause!?
We got called up to receive the honor and we did.
It would be great if the guy with the e-bike would see us at Grange
for a beer! It would be nice...

Sorry that you feel that way but you is being a cry baby and a bad sport. :)

Dave Rust and I talked about making those cool trophies for the 4 Gas Classes
many months before that Grange Race.
Arrow Motorized Cycles only makes parts for the 2 strokes that you elitist
ebikers deride as "stink bikes" on your forum.

I made the decision at the last moment like 3 days before the race to mix the
eBikes in with the gas bike classes because there are so few ebikes and they
range from eMotorcycles to pretty slow.
Chris riding the Tomahawk 14 hp noped didn't pull a hissy fit like you
when he was disqualified and scotto got the cool trophy.

SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing is paid for by Gas Bikers and we set the rules.
I won't be racing over powered eMotorcycles like liveforphysics 40-50 hp
against the 11 hp 4 stroke class.
eBikes have been invited to race against the gas bikes in the "Ultimate Race"
of all the classes but there will always be separate gas and ebike classes too.

Whenever Luke aka liveforphysics keeps his promise to have that "free race"
that he announced to much praise and accolade on endless spheres you
guys can set the rules however you want.
Luke said he was putting on the free race just a few days after the June 2011
race at Willow Springs and we are still waiting?

Most of the ebike guys that have come to the races are great guys, farfle,
zombiess, etard, RWP, PaulD, Acutero, Thud, etc so I am sorry to see you
here causing trouble.
