hello there guys I have just realized something about what defines a motor assisted bicycle in ontario. if you read this quote from the new and alternative vehicles section you will notice that it has a "PISTON" displacement of no more then 50cc all right we got that but if you use something other then a piston i.e. a rotor like in a rotary engine like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIbV9w4fRGg&feature=related it wont fall under the definition of a motor assisted bicycle in fact it has no definition at all and same goes with a jet turbine powered bicycle like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z765le_xoV4 it doesn't have a piston so it cant fall under the defenition of motor assisted bicycle.
A motor-assisted bicycle is a bicycle that:

is fitted with pedals that are operable at all times to propel the bicycle;
weighs not more than 55 kilograms;
has no hand or foot operated clutch or gearbox driven by the motor and transferring power to the driven wheel;
has a piston displacement of not more that 50 cubic centimetres; and,
does not attain a speed greater than 50 km/hr on level ground within a distance of 2 km from a standing start.

That is quite a bit of restriction. Most of those are pretty standard, but the weight of the vehicle and distance of achievable speed are not as common.
