Cranks With 4G

I'm getting really tired of re-threading the chain on my crank. The three piece crank that came with the Grubee kit is crap. I'm frequently having to re-tighten the cones and lock nuts that don't lock. OK, I'm sure you get the picture.

Is there such a thing as a crank set I can get that will be wide enough to accommodate the 4G engine? SBP sells one that might work. Does anyone know anything about that setup?

I'd really like for the crank set to be as dependable as the engine is. Can anyone help me with this?

I really thought about the cartridge solution, but there are ends of the seat, down and whatever the rear tubes are called extend into the bracket. So after considerable thought, I came to a conclusion.

My frame is an old Walmart Murray cheap cruiser. The paint I used on it is worth more than the frame itself. I can replace the entire bike for $10 to $25. Soooo, I took the crank set apart and cleaned all the threaded parts. I reassembled the crankset so that it worked well. Then I let it sit over night while the JB Weld I used on all the threaded surfaces set up.

It now looks like the crank bearings and cones and such are going to stay in adjustment for a good long time. If I ever need to replace the crank set, I'll just replace the frame. There's like four of this kind of bike at every yard sale. Not gonna be a problem.

Here's an update for all you owners of 4G wide crank sets that won't stay put. The JBWeld job I did to my crank set is still working really well. However long it's been since I did that, the adjustment to the bearings has not changed one iota. (What exactly is an iota?)

It was a good option for me because I don't place much value on my frame, as you can read in the thread. It truly is a great thing to be able to count on your pedals to be where they are supposed to be and to be able to pedal assist the bike when needed.

Anyway, I'm pronouncing the fix 'successful' in case anyone was wondering.

Ha Ha, pretty cool. This MB of mine has become a low maintenance pleasure machine. Sorry, that sounds like something out of a grade B porn movie. But the truth is when I'm out riding it, I will just keep going down streets I don't need to go down just so I can keep riding it. It's a wonderful, floating sensation and I never want it to stop.
