Hello,

It's a year, since I began my second velocar project , so I want to show the results so far.
The Roadster is not ready yet, but I hope to complete it in early spring.
Recently I'm 50% through the construction of the front hood.

Specs:

Quadricycle
Capacity: 2 adults (sociable) + 2 small childs
Length: 300cm+/10ft
Width: 113cm/3ft 8inch
Height: Body 79cm/ 31inch, Soft top 115cm/3ft 9inch
Frame weight: 15kg
Chassis weight (with suspension/axle parts, complete wheels (2x NuVinci) and steering, transmission still missing): 37kg
Overall weight: 65-70kg (I hope so)
A hub motor instead of Nuvinci and Lifepo4 battery+controller may add 6-7kg

Frame and body parts are build from 4mm Okoume/Gaboon plywood with spruce girders.

The box frame, top panel still missing

Mockup family ride and future body lines

The chassis is standing on it's own wheels !!!

Somewhat transformed Ackermann (or better Lankensperger) geometry

Early stage of tail construction

Dashboard frame is glued

Future front luggage compartment

A first test with cheap poplar plywood, to control the right shape. Thanks Steffen

Knee clearance is a bit tight, I have to shift the dashboard 5cm forward

Additional cutouts for the knees of the riders.
I'm dreaming about a very old brass clock in the middle of the dashboard

Look's great! Paint the rear arch a different color and call it "Dela-Hey-Hey"!! :D

Thanks for your comments.
My favoured paint scheme is green, black and wood.
Most edges of the body will be painted dark green after filling all screw holes.
I want to paint black lines on the borders between green and clear finished wood.

That's really cool. Your steering setup looks well designed and very adjustable. I would like to build something similar, but with only three wheels to maintain street legality.

Luckily, here in Germany the number of wheels of an E-assisted pedal vehicle doesn't matter at all.
A guy from Berlin has built an eight-wheeled pedal truck with E-motor and can drive it legally in traffic.
http://www.nicojungel.net/space.html
In the UK, they changed the law in mid 2015 and E-quadracycles seeming to be legal now.
I don't have understood completely the new UK-regulation, due to the bureaucratic English language, I even have problems to read bureaucratic German :D
In case of the US, it may be almost impossible to have booth four wheels and E-assist in a legal pedal vehicle.
But as I learned, the regulations differ from state to state, right?

"But as I learned, the regulations differ from state to state, right? "
There is a National law in the USA legalizing 4 wheel, electric vehicles regulated to 20mph or less. If you are capable of better than 20 mph, better to have three wheels to be considered a motorcycle. Otherwise, you will need 5 mph bumpers, air bags, and lots of additional safety equipment.

A short building update:

Door frames glued and doors finally cut out.
With outside hinges they will be able to swing 180°, as shown

Top panel temporarily attached and edges partly trimmed.

The hole in the front will be closed by the head lights and a "hood", next weeks main issue.
Due to my trial&error building method this will take some time.

Thanks, SB and yep, looks like :)
But, as I know Banshee, she'd rather run beside the velocar, than sit in it.
Maybe after a few miles ;)

Tomorrow I will do further work on the velocar.
I was not able since last Thursday, because of a severe cold.
A lot of functional stuff is still to do.
Steering column,handlebar, brakes and transmission.
The design is nice so far (IMHO), but worthless without all that.
I hope in early spring I can do my first test rides.
