Ok skrew the cranny, I found a late 60's Raleigh Space rider on the craigslist for 60, hopefully haggle down to 40ish. Does anyone know if these bikes have a large enough triangle to mount a pred? Heres the ad for it: Raleigh Space Rider

nice enuf old bike but u'd be btr off w a mtb that has at least center-pull brakes and 1.95/2.0 tires and 1.5 al rims.

I agree with rc....those look like ten-speed wheels...I wouldn't hook a sprocket to em.

On the other hand, I'd get the bike & either restore it or strip it for the cool parts. The seat, cranks, & handlebars are probably worth the $40 you offered. I'm not sure if the triangle is big enough or not....I've just got a lil china girl...

I don't have any experience with those myself, so don't take my word for it. (Also, for the record, I tend toward beefier parts when given a choice). Search around the boards & see what others are saying about the Sturmeys. They might be awesome, for all I know....
