I've seen rear mount motors on them,and I've seen the shock replaced solid and center mounted motors,,,,there is a thread here I believe that uses a CVT on the rear mount w/chain drive,its neat

If the BB (pedal-crank) is in the pivot arm too then a rear mount and a shift kit can be done,especially if it is a Y frame(not a triangle frame

Just adding, could also go rack mount. With the engine sitting over the rear wheel. They ride great and all the noise and vibes are behind you.

Easily, you will just need to account for chain growth if you mount the engine in the triangle a decent spring loaded chain tensioner will do this. Mounting it on a rack above the rear wheel is a bad idea, the motor is unspring weight, will have a negative impact on the suspension performance, this is one of the big draw backs for the electric hub motor users with their big rear hubs in suspension bikes.
