Has anyone thrown any part of the China girl casing into a fire? I am curious as if these are a magnesium alloy or just aluminium?

Just hold a Bic lighter against the case. If it sets your house on fire, it was magnesium. :)
No, they're aluminum, plain old cast aluminum, and not "pot metal" as I've seen some call it.

Jezus, so glad they're aluminum. Was spot welding a front motor mount to my frame with the motor attached to get the angle right and accidentally struck the case with my rod. Didn't even think to wonder if the cases were magnesium.

Didn't air cooled VW's have a magnesium block? I seem to remember my older brother telling stories about throwing them into a bondfire.

Really, a propane torch will get the job done better.

Yes, the V-Dub cases were magnesium alloy, we just had to do some fancy welding on a 1/2 VW engine on an ultralight.
