Yup... that's why almost Every fastener on an aircraft uses some type of elsf locking device and/or safety wire. It's not uncommon at all when removing a part to cut the safety wire and the bolt or nut is loose. Split washers are almost never used but the star washers are commonly used if that's going to be the locking device. Locktite is also used but only on certain parts where no other means to lock the hardware would work. For the most part, lock nuts with distorted threads are the main locking mechanism, Nylon ring licking nuts used to be widely used until a few years ago because heat can disable the nylon and age combined with heat can make the nylon brittle and useless too, but nylon ring type lock nuts are still usable in the automotive industry.
