I made a sprocket up by using one of the shift kit chain rings that sick bike parts sells, the center hole is much larger than the hole in the kit sprockets, it was just a matter of using the kit sprocket to clamp to the other sprocket get it perfectly centered and drill the rag joint holes.
That may be the answer to your hub being larger than the more modern size we have now days.
