what is the best motor available?

This is the toughest question to answer because it depends on a lot of things.
A Morini motor is considered by many to be the best, but will not simply bolt on. If you are not a welder, it's not the best motor for you.
The latest SpookyTooth death race was won by an electric bike (Yes, it beat two Morinis), so you cannot rule them out if you can afford it.
Tanakas are powerful if you want a rear rack mounted motor.
If you just want more speed, a china girl motor with an expansion chamber exhaust and shift/jackshaft kit may work best.
It just depends. Keep reading the forums to see what works for you.
 
Thanks for the info. I'M looking into some grubee motors. JUst not sure which one. I like most others want speed torque and reliability. Any grubee suggestions anyone?
 
I just put a grubee on my beach cruzer 26 inch.

As I read the forum I began to prep the engine

as soon as it arrived. I removed the top head

and use indian head shallack on all the head gaskets

then reassembled with new bolts, not the acorn bolts

and I tourqerd em down.

my clutch was very very tight, so I had to adjust the
clutch spring. look for the instructions in the forum.

now Im fine tunning the carb.

This is all a hassle---- but you best be prepared if you
get a china grubee. they are poorly manufactured.
thats why there so chep. you can make em run but
you gott tune em up and in.

Frankly if I had to do it over I would have choosen the 99 cc from
harbor freight. 1 yr. guarantee, pull start, 4 stroke.

I'm using my ride to go to and from work, I want dependability

At this point I feel that I will be constantly messing with this
little engine, something I did not want to do.

In the weeks to come I'll probably get the 99 cc, and fabricate
motor mounts and have a weilding shop weild it on.
much more dependable, start and go.

I had with my grubee, and then many have. If you don't mind constant
tinkering with ur moto, the grubee is the way to go.
 
The first thing I did was check the DMV web site here in GA. and found out that a 48cc was the largest engine I could use that would not require ins. and a tag.
 
Best motor available? I wouldn't even consider a Chinese 2-stroke. They're like playing the lottery. Usually you don't win.

I'd be looking at 4-strokes and then try to figure out which one is best :D

Hi, just came accross ur post n was wonderin how easy that would be to mount the 4 stroke 99cc on a bike? I looked at thw sit and saw the motor, one the side with the shaft looks like there is something missing. How would you hoow the sprocket up and would else might I need. Thx chris.

electric bikes = 100 % tourque at 0 rpm . I watched a you tube vid of a kid smoking motorcycles in grand style with one of them .
But back to your question best advice is pick a motor kit that best suits your needs an terain .

I bought five 48cc grubee engines from Bikeberry last spring, all are still running well, you can call any of the sponsors on the sides of this forum to see who has them in stock. Good luck, Greg

i wouldn't recommend the grubee skyhawk kits to anyone. sadly, they're the only ones currently legal to import from china. everyone i've built had problems. blown head gaskets, bad magnetos, weak pistons.

something as simple as a ring keeper on the piston can break loose and destroy your motor. i was trying to make them faster and more reliable and offer them for sale, but instead, i'm in the hole with a pile of scrap aluminum.

grubee's poor quality has totally turned me off of the chinese 2 stroke. in fact, i need to rebuild my race motor for the 4th or 5th time, and the bike's got less then 100 miles on it. every engine failure was caused by crappy pistons.

part of the fault is i'm modifying them to go much faster than stock and the pistons just can't take it. but people have been modifying little engines for 100 years with good results. it's sad when you can't even build the kit straight outta the box without something failing right away. add a little more power and watch all your hours of hard work explode on your way home from 7/11.

reliability from a chinese two stroke? good luck. making money selling them? good luck. fixing bikes you've built to try to keep a customer happy? get used to it.

bitter? yeah, a little...:)
