Chain slack will be on the bottom. For the stock carb, two screws hold on a black cover on the back of the carb. Remove the screws and the cover. There's a foam element inside. Squeeze it dry with a rag, replace.
Carb cleaning, if you've let the bike sit unridden for the winter months, clean it in the spring. If you're going to store it for the winter, drain the tank and the fuel bowl before putting it up. If you ride it often, clean the carb when it starts getting sluggish.
