Not such a bad idea, but I would want to take a look at some they've already built. If they're drilling the frame for the front mount, no no no. A thousand times no. If the mounting front and rear isn't flush and solid, again no. If the chain alignment is off, no. Everything else, you can deal with after the fact, but those points are important to get right the first time.

On the other hand, you'll be darned proud of your bike if you've assembled it yourself, and you'll be better prepared to make roadside repairs, should those be required.
