If you're planning on buying a complete setup look into HVLP systems. A friend got one cheap from a pawn shop and it does a real nice job of laying down paint.
the new stuff that is out since i was painting has changed , I was looking at this but it still needs an Compressor, the world of painting is changing , i remember back in the day when all the dump trucks were geting > i think it was called > enron paint jobs > it was just about bullit proof and stood up to the tar and gravels like nothing else , everybody wanted the paint on their cars. you can bet i live way back in the woods my nearest neighbors are over five miles away , what i dont understand is some of the body shops i have been in , the people dont even wear an cloth mask. I know better than that. I need work bad but i would not work for these people, I would not only wear an respirator , but I would wear an tyevec suit
