Thanks for the input. I didn't even think to consider the bike shop vs. dept. store differences on the same brand. The only frame I'm certain of is the Diamondback since it was my first real mountain bike bought new from one of those spandex places. That's why I know it's chrome-moly and also it happens to be a very nice stiff frame, no complaints. The other frames (Raleigh, Velosport, Fuji and Peugeot) I'm uncertain of since I got them from the local dump, that's why I'm not sure of what steel they are and also if they're bike shop quality or the cheaper quality.
McGyver could fix that with bubble gum.
